Dragons circling a misty mountain vale at first light

Unofficial fan guide · Updated October 2026

Enter the Vale. Leave bonded — or burned.

An unofficial recap of what is on the public record: the official site at dragonkind.com, Rebecca Yarros’s own comments, firsthand playtests from October 2026, and book lore that is not the same thing as game mechanics.

01 — What this is

Dragonkind is a book-world — and a live game.

Nothing here is invented as a “secret route.” If a line is book lore, it says so. If players reported it, it says so. If Yarros or the official site said it, it says so. Illustrations on this fan site are original concept art, not screenshots of dragonkind.com.

In The Empyrean novels, “dragonkind” is the civilization of dragons. Separately, on October 1, 2026, Rebecca Yarros (Yarros Ink) opened dragonkind.com — a free, email-gated, choose-your-path Threshing. Playtesters report you can bond with a dragon or be incinerated, then wait before retrying. There is no published answer key.

02 — Fast start

What you can actually rely on.

Use a real inbox.

Player reports: disposable addresses often never get the one-time code.

You get a wing, section, and squad.

MoodReads’s Oct 2, 2026 run: First Wing, Claw Section, Third Squad, then a “Brave Threshing” button. Yours will differ.

Same answers are not a route.

Readers told MoodReads that friends who picked the same choices got different outcomes — one bonded, one died. No guaranteed path.

Book approach rules are book rules.

Kaori’s class in Fourth Wing is real lore. Whether the website scores those rules has not been confirmed by Yarros Ink.

People do fail Threshing.

MoodReads was incinerated on Oct 2 (“OOOOH. That was a… choice.”). Threads readers report dying several times before a bond. Parade, citing Yarros, said roughly a 10% chance of incineration no matter what you do.

The result card is name, tail, sex, age, color, lineage.

That list is from readers comparing cards on Threads, including one public example: Eidhich, a brown swordtail, male, 82, Rynonian lineage.

No signet yet.

Rebecca said the site is designed to grow and that readers can manifest signets in May. MoodReads recorded “May,” not a locked calendar date on the official site.

03 — Dens at a glance

Book dens — not a Dragonkind drop table.

These portraits are fan art. The traits below are Empyrean book lore (see the official series dens page). The website has not published that it uses this table to pick your dragon.

Fan concept of a black dragon

Black

Books: rarest; smart, discerning, cunning. Named adults include Tairn and Codagh.

Fan concept of a blue dragon

Blue

Books: largest/ruthless. Kaori’s warning is to flee, not approach. Sgaeyl is a navy daggertail.

Fan concept of a green dragon

Green

Books: intelligent, calm; lower your eyes, never back down. Clubtails prized as siege weapons.

Fan concept of a red dragon

Red

Books: never meet their gaze; approach from the left and front if you can. Scorpiontails especially quick to anger.

Fan concept of an orange dragon

Orange

Books: most unpredictable; apricot to carrot; Fhaicorain line. Risky to approach at Threshing.

Fan concept of a brown dragon

Brown

Books: never show fear. Aimsir is bonded to General Sorrengail.

Fan concept of a gold feathertail

Gold

Books: feathertails are juveniles, not a standard adult den. Reader-shared game cards list adult colors; gold on the website is not confirmed here.

05 — FAQ

Short answers.

Is this the official site?

No. This is an unofficial fan recap. Play at dragonkind.com (Yarros Ink).

Is the Dragonkind game free?

Yes. The public flow is email plus a one-time code. No payment is part of that signup.

Do I need to read Fourth Wing first?

No requirement has been published. The site is playable without the books. Book dens and approach rules are extra context, not a confirmed scoring sheet.

Is there an answer key?

No published one. Reader reports say identical choices can still split into bond vs death.

Is the wait four minutes or four hours?

Not settled in public reporting. Playtests photographed/described a 4:00 countdown. Parade reported Yarros saying a four-hour wait. Match whatever dragonkind.com shows you.

Can I play on desktop?

dragonkind.com is a website. Fan rumors about phone battery affecting black dragons are unconfirmed and mostly discussed in the context of phones.
